After responding to close to 60 comments yesterday (between my two blogs) I feel a little spent today.
Guys, that's not a humblebrag - that's a holysh*t my blogs were humped hard yesterday thanks to Kathy. I'm surprised I can walk type today. No wonder Wednesdays are my favorite in all of blog land. Each week I get more and more happy to see some ladies link up for their very first times and love it as much as I do.
However - today is a crazy exciting milestone that I need to share with you wonderful people!
Today marks 15 years since I had my last soda.
For those of you who drink one or two a day (or 64oz like you, dad!) this sounds like an impossible feat, doesn't it?
It didn't start for a diet or for a dare - it started in 7th grade at a softball practice where we were tasked with giving up something for a week to work on our mental toughness. A friend and I could have gone the easy route of no TV (or no homework!), but we decided to really challenge ourselves and chose no soda.
The great thing was that after the week was over I continued the competition and after about 3 weeks I no longer wanted any. Weeks turned to months turned to years... and now here I am - 15 beautiful years later with no soda cravings to be noted.
Of course you're going to say "what about in mixed drinks!" - no, I don't order anything with soda as the main mixer (i.e Jack & coke is off limits - also vodka & soda sorry Kathy). However, I'm sure that negligible amounts have gone into my system as a splash here and a splash there - I'm quite okay with this. It's not about the accidental traces, it's the "sobriety" and will power that matter to me.
FUN FACTS!
-15 Years is more than half my life.
-15 Years is half the time my parents have been married.
-My favorite kind was Diet Dr. Pepper.
-The last soda I had was Super Size McDonald's Diet Dr. Pepper (and I chose to not finish it)
-I do wish I could have a root beer float.
-The money I save in soda is likely offset by the money I spend on gum. #gumaddict
Judge if you will, but I'm proud. May I also mention I'm approaching 13 years of no french fries?
Now, how am I going to quit you, Extra Sugarfree gum?

That is fantastic!! I'm definitely not addicted in having 2 a day, but I do treat myself to one on the weekends!! It's sort of my cheat lol!
isn't soda water just carbonated water? because it tastes like ass on its own and the vodka just makes it tolerable. or have i been duped all these years?? ok then, straight vodka it is!!
and i'm glad that your blogs got humped to kingdom come! that's the purpose of the linkup - getting humped all the live long day holla!

Vodka and Soda
That's awesome!
I haven't had a soda since October! My favorite was Diet Mt. Dew...I can have it with my band and everything, but had to give it up for prep of surgery and just chose not to drink it anymore. Now I crave water all the time. Love it!
That's amazing, goooooooooooo you!!!! I gave up soda all of college, but then mixed drinks came back at the bars. But, that's the only place I drink soda, so it's not the worst!
Wooohooo for lots of fun comments, that's the best :)!
I went from drinking at LEAST 6 cans a day to drinking ZERO b/c of this damn ulcer. I'm hoping it'll actually help me finally kick the habit though. Yesterday SUCKED BALLSACKS at work though so I allowed myself a root beer b/c I wanted the bubbles but not the caffeine. BABY STEPS!
Thats so cool and crazy at the same time. There was a time I hated soda and now i like it again but I'm trying to quit!
WOW!!! 15 years no soda?!? That's awesome! I'm not really a soda fan so I barely ever have it but french fries? Yeah, I can't give those up. I don't even think I could go 30 days with no french fries LOL! You go girl!

WHAT! How is this possible. That is so impressive, I wish I had your willpower. Last Saturday I literally had french fries with every meal (and I happened to have four meals that day). Teach me your ways!
That is actually INSANE! As I get older I am losing that desire for pop (we don't call it soda in Canada!). I haven't had one in probably six months. I only drink diet but that's just as bad if not worse than regular.
That is AWESOME girl! I drink 99% water, sometimes tea. I do have about 1-2 pops a month, as a little treat. I know it's awful for you! Sugar is an evil thing, I feel great when I try and avoid sugar. It's something I kind of struggle with still.
good for you!! i give up soda every february/lent and then summer comes. i'm on the beach, and while everyone around me is drinking beer, i have a coke. and thus starts the dang downfall. every time.
this is amazing. you're hardcore, lady. i have given up soda so many times, sometimes lasted months, others lasted days. french fries=never. my besties.
holy cow!! that is freaking amazing. and no french fries? you are awesome
No French fries? Do they not have Chick-fil-a where you are? I will only eat "worth it" fries but to me, when those are hot, they're totally worth it. Also since you know you can go without soda, how come you still deprive yourself of the root beer float? Afraid that one sip will suck you back in to high fructose corn syrup town? (It probably will, sadly... so sad).
I'm sorry...did you just say you haven't had a french fry in 1 3 years?!?!One day, I think I would like to hopefully give up soda forever. Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke with cherry syrup are my weaknesses and while I don't indulge daily...I probably have one or two a week. I know they are terrible....but whatever.
But no fries? NO FRIES?!?! While I wont just eat any fries, I have to LOVE them to indulge...I just can't quit them completely. That is some will power!
stop that last gif is insanely creepy and amazing all at the same time! Congrats girl! I can't drink soda because the sweetness gets me revved up and before I know it I've eaten like 4 snickers....it's a problem ;)
Your willpower is ridiculous. It kind of makes me want to go chug some diet dr. p and eat french fries. :)
Wow!! That is truly one of the most impressive things I've ever heard!! Congrats to you!!
Good for you! Whenever someone complains about their weight, I gently suggest they give up pop first- it's the easiest thing to eliminate, and once you quit, you don't want to go back. I gave up soda around my senior year of high school (I was a one coke a day kind of girl), and now I don't like pop at all. I don't drink soda on it's own, and very rarely have a cocktail with soda added (I love mojitos, so I figure club soda doesn't count so much).
That last gif is totally scary hahaha yikes- way to go! I was never really a soda drinker and if I ever touch one it is def a Dr. P - does RedBull count though? hmmm
Thats is awesome. I did 3 month before without soda before. I only have 2 soda a week if that. I give tons of extra for giving up soda.
I gave up soda from 2007 til 2012... aka when I started practicing law and needed a 3pm diet dp every once in a while. now i limit it to 2 a week and then only the mini size.
Okay, that girl in the last gif FREAKS me out! Like seriously...so scary.
wait, what????? i am more impressed than ever before. i don't think i will ever be able to part ways with my diet coke.
ooh 64oz tsk tsk dad, you could learn a thing or two from your daughter and soda addiction i have heard from people that the struggle is real aint worth it to me
soda is way overrated. shmeh. shmeh!
The more I watched that gif the harder I laughed. I don't know what it is but I couldn't stop watching it. Anyways, GO YOU for no soda!!!
I really don't drink soda either but have started to become obsessed with ginger ale lately.. basically I'm becoming a 70 year old woman. What I can't get past is 13 years without french fries!!!! I don't think I have ever gone even 13 DAYS without them!
Too crazy, I gave up soda my sophomore year of high school because our volleyball coach challenged up to. Prior I would drink at least 1 Mountain Dew everyday. I haven't had one since (although I confess that every so often when I have the flu, the only thing that sounds good is diet 7up).
Congrats on your anniversary!
Wow!! I've always been pretty good about soda intake but NO FRIES?! That is one thing I could never give up. props to you!
