This One's For Her

For her.

There's an amazing woman in my life who needs some recognition this Mother's Day Week so why not do it here for all to see. Not only because she's my mom, but she's the most remarkable female role model I know personally or professionally.

Mom.

(even though I think she'd prefer to be called "mum" by little english grandchildren... ahem, brother)

The woman who spent her 28th birthday in the hospital with me and wouldn't have rather been anywhere else.

A woman who didn't have the ideal "mother" figure herself, and rather than passing that cycle down through us has devoted her entire life to being the mother that she wishes she had. Even when it always didn't come naturally or easily to her.

She always knew when to write me a "sick note" - and often offered to do it for me because she's always wished for me to do less rather than more.  She still offers even today when she knows I'm stressed.

She always knew that taking me for a walk would get me to open up about the things that were on my mind.

The mother who would save all of the laundry in high school for when I was having movie night with my very-religious wasn't-going-to-try-anything boyfriend to make sure she could come downstairs and check on us.

She's stood back and has allowed me to learn my own lessons in matters of the heart, but has also known the right time to step in and weigh her opinions on my life choices (and she has ALWAYS. BEEN. RIGHT).

Always.

This woman showed me how to get what I want from my dad - and the theory has actually been fail-proof with all other men and some ego-heavy women.

She knows that she is beautiful and has boosted my confidence by continually calling me the "improved version" of herself.

She continues to impress me by reinventing herself over and over. Whether it's showing me how to be a healthier version of myself or shows me how she's challenging herself with new adventures like blogging and retirement.

She's my hero, my role model, my everything.

I love you, mom

P.S. We need some photos together, please?
