Adult Habits I Need in My Life

There's something so whimsical about Wednesday confessions that make me feel like Thursday should be a little more serious. If days were friends, Wednesday would be my good time party friend that's always down to drink one more margarita. Thursday is then my friend who I'd meet for coffee to talk politics and women's rights on a weekend morning. Okay so I don't exactly have a friend like Thursday but I think you know what I mean. She's a little more serious, that Thursday lady.

For those of you who were here last week, I'm proud to say that I'm now 27 days sober (you'll want to click that link if you think I meant sober from alcohol). Days keep going by and life keeps getting better. Had you asked me in February what I thought March 27th would look like it'd be nothing like this. The future is brighter than ever and I'm approaching a month of freedom with zero intent to break this golden streak.

While we're on the topic of going 27 days without something, let's chat about habits - since talking to that boy was a pretty big one I had to break.

We all form our own habits for better or for worse. They shape who we are and they can say a lot about us. This week of clean eating has made me realize that I've adopted some poor habits when it comes to workday snacking and it's also made me think about the habits I wish I had in my life. The habits that would make me feel like I had my life together and that I was actually 26 years old like my driver's license suggests I am. Want to play along?
+ Make my bed every morning
+ A better skin-care routine (thoughts on this?)
+ Eat dinner at the table, not in my bed hovered over my laptop
+ Something called a bedtime, do you know what this is?
+ Add sweeping, dusting and vacuuming into my cleaning routine
+ Fold the pile of clean laundry that's on my bed right now rather than sleep with it
+ Regular car washes and oil checks
+ A résumé that's ready to go at any given moment
+ To enjoy sitting down with a book to get lost in for hours
+ Keep up on current events and be able to have intelligent conversations about them
+ Say no and say it often
+ Say yes and say it often
+ Spend money on experiences and not objects
+ Make more phone calls

Those are all baby changes to make, which one should I get after first?

What are some things that you need in your life that would make you feel a little more put together?

I have a clarisonic and I can honestly say it is such a good investment. It really has changed my skin for the better.

I am a HUGE fan of experiences over things! I would much rather a friend take me to dinner for my birthday than buy me another damn picture frame or scarf. I mean I like and appreciate both but memories last forever and junk gets donated or tossed eventually!

I am the worst cleaner ever but making myself swiffer the floors twice a week makes my house just FEEL cleaner and it makes me feel more adult-like. I have three years on you and I still feel like a child all the time though, so sorry but adulthood won't come that quick - maybe 30 is the key?

We rarely eat dinner at the table - usually in front of the tv...so bad, but once you get a house I think it'll be easier (for us as well. I love the one about spending money on experiences not things!! Trying to be more mindful of that and I never make my bed...ugh so not an adult at all!!

if i were to go by that list for me, skin care is my top priority. years ago, my mom told me to take care of my skin starting at a young age because when i'm older, i'll be so thankful and you know, what? I AM. i'm 38 but people don't think i am (they think i'm late 20s or 30). 8 years off my face? YES PLEASE.

so a great skin routine would be my pick to nail down.

clairsonic - i would do major reviews on this. i dont use it (my skin is too sensitive) and some people swear by it, some people don't. it's done wonders for some and ruined the skin of others. so this is more of a personal thing but i think that a device like this isn't necessary. if you have a good cleanser, exfoliate once a week and wash your face every night before bed, you don't need this. again, MY OPINION. anything that adds friction to your skin - even the slightest tug - is not good in the long run.

not sure what your skin type is like but if you want, you can email me and we can chat about this because skin care is my jam.

Run, don't walk... to your nearest Clarisonic seller. Seriously. I've had mine for maybe a month now and it's made a HUGE difference in the texture of my skin.

This is great! I read an article featuring Lauren Conrad yesterday and she said the bed is for 2 things: sleeping and sex! haha Try to avoid, working, eating, lounging there! (I need to eat healthier, and SAVE $- yup those are my two for now...)

"Spend money on experiences and not objects." LOVE this! That's where my money goes. I've had people say, "But it doesn't last long. A new shirt/pants/etc. last longer." Yes, but life is too short to not experience as much of it as we can.

You go girl! ;)

Should I have confessed on Wednesday to that fun friend that I actually don't really wash my face? I slap some water on it and dry it with a clean wash cloth, but I find my face breaks out more when I use any type of soap. I am super sensitive and have skin allergies so that probs doesn't help! I vote for bedtime being your serious Thursday friend. I have been in bed by 10 every night which is helping me get to the gym during the early am!

I am all about traveling (experience over things) and same can be said for concerts. I don't get the point in making my bed in the morning, I can do it when I get home (if I even do it). :) Reading is awesome and would be an easy one to start on! I am a huge book worm so if you want to talk books, let me know.

Oh my gosh, I can SO relate to this list and I can honestly say that ALL of this is stuff I need to work on - glad to know I'm not the only one! Also, I have very oily breakout prone skin and I am by no means in a place where I have a perfect skin care routine, however, I do notice improvement when I use my clarisonic!

I never make our bed unless if I'm having people over, but then sometimes I don't even do it for that.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Clarisonic. It works for some, yet makes others break out like crazy. I ain't touching it with a 10' pole. I don't need more acne on my face.

HATE WASHING MY CAR, so that's what car washes are for :)

I should probably start making my bed. I rarely do. Unless my parents are visiting.

I actually do most of those things on your list, which somehow makes me feel better, haha. I've found that structure helps me feel calmer, so as soon as I scootch out of bed in the morning, the bed gets made (which really just involves pulling the covers back up to the pillows). I have an entire bedtime routine which helps with the skincare/bedtime/reading. At 10pm every night, I wash face/brush teeth/take out contacts. Then get into jammies, climb in bed, and read til my eyes droop. Set my Sleep Cycle app alarm and bam. I'm out. (I can't recommend Sleep Cycle enough- it's been really helpful with getting me up in the morning).

But I have plenty I want to work on. Like managing time with my friends, and not biting off more than I can chew. Oh, and saving $$. Or budgeting in general. Or making appointments for important things in a timely manner...

Oh gosh, I'm right there with you in making my bed. You'd think that would be such an easy task to keep up with.

I'm working on the skin care thing now… the spending money on experiences (hello, Vegas!)… but I took having a super clean house off my list… I decided against that one. :)

Those are all great habits! I make my bed every morning and it makes my life feel a little less chaotic, if that makes sense? I want to get a nice skin care routine going, I just have no idea where to start. Eating dinner at the table, yes! Basically YES to all of these :D
