Confessions of a Procrastinator

Procrastination Level: Expert

This is how I've been living my week and it's only solidified that I need to get better on my focus-game.

See, I've had some "studying" to do recently for work where I needed the comfort of my own home to really pay attention. The problem happens to be that when I'm at home surrounded by bright and shiny laptops, workout DVDs and iPhones - I don't always consider the work to be the most important thing.

So it's time to confess how I procrastinate!

Here are real-life things that happened this weekend to put off studying:

- Emptied the dishwasher (it had been clean for 5 days)
- Ran a load of towels in the washing machine... I have plenty of clean towels (read: single)
- Cooked and photographed Cinco de Mayo dinner in "good lighting"
- Re-organized my iPhone apps
- Studied my face pores / tweezed stray eyebrow hairs
- Recorded a push-up video for my fitness group on Facebook (several re-takes, arms are sore)
- Followed tons of TIU (Tone It Up) Challengers on Instagram, just because I love sweaty selfies
- Curled 3rd day hair just to see how it'd look
- Stayed out "late" on Saturday to play Cards Against Humanity
- Watched a recording of the fitness class I took last week... just watched, didn't work out along with it
- Scrolled Netflix for something new to watch as background noise
- Scrolled Spotify for a good "study" playlist - got distracted by music instead
- Took selfies

These facts and many more solidify my thoughts that I'll never be able to go back to get my Master's degree. I just can't keep focused long enough on studying without thinking instantly that it's break time!

I think next time I need to run off to a coffee shop and turn my phone on silent.

I must know - what are the ways that you win the procrastination award and what are the situations where you do it?

I am pretty dang good at procrastinating too. I will have a whole list of things written out that I need to get done, but I usually get overwhelmed and accomplish nothing. That and I have a tendency to want to binge watch a Netflix show, or I start reading blogs. Not to mention Carson is really good at distracting me too with wanting to play games or go outside.

Good lord, story of my life.
I have been studying for these exams, but here I am 2 weeks out and I have no motivation to keep going. Everything else in the world is just so much more interesting at this point. EEK!!!!

i was queen procrastinator when i was younger. it was the worst in college; once when i dreaded studying for a calculus final, i picked off all of those little balls from my pants BY HAND just to avoid studying.

I'm the queen of procrastination. In my defence... I do my best work with that rush of anxiety you get from doing things at the last damn minute!

I am so good at procrastinating it's ridiculous but now I blame all of it on blogging ;-) I work better when I have 10 tasks to do instead of like one....at least that's what I tell myself. This post cracked me up! Took pictures in good lighting.....3 day old hair probably curled great right?

"Just watched it, didn't work out along with it..." Love that!

I think we all procrastinate sometimes! Social media is the biggest killer of my drive. Sometimes it's nice when my phone dies because then I have no choice but to get busy... unless the ipad or laptop are within arm's length and then all hope is lost!

It's funny how when you need to finish something, suddenly house-cleaning seems appealing ;)

Cards Against Humanity > studying ;)

I am an expert procrastinator. However, I have implemented the concept of "if it takes less than 5 minutes do it right now." That helps me with things like folding laundry, emptying the dishwasher, taking out the trash, putting things away. But for bigger tasks, I haven't found a tool to help with that yet.

I'm right there with you at expert level when it comes to procrastinating! Anything on the internet or on TV is how I procrastinate. Always has been and always will be one of my biggest struggles. Thankfully I'm done with school otherwise I'm not sure that I would graduate haha.

i was the champion of putting off studying for my CPT. in fact I should be studying some more now and going over things and I just can't...but I did spend over 10 mins looking for a good study app to download on my phone, so that counts for something right?

Sometimes I think the only time I clean is when I am avoiding something else!

Haha anything & everything is more important & exciting when you have studying to do. I can't count the number of "important" things I had to do during finals week...or hell even regular weeks...while in college.

Procrastination is my middle name. (Not really, that would be weird. But it should be.)

hahaha!! yes. but at least you got some stuff done right?! ugh i should def get back to work right now.

Rachel Sedaker said...

Shoot, I'm procrastinating right now. You could look at it as being alternately productive- you ARE getting things done, they're just different than the thing that is most important.

Ahhh yes. Procrastination is the language in which I speak!!

What kind of fitness facebook group do you have?

Katie Elizabeth said...

I totally do the same things. If I ever really need to get something done, I HAVE to get out of my apartment. Way too many distractions! And it's a good excuse to go to Starbucks :)

you can get away with a lot when you live by yourself, i did when i lived by myself and i think some of those living alone tendencies i still keep and it annoys my husband, almost 4 years married and i still can't shake the i lived alone i can do whatever i want mentality, oops

Haha totally sounds like things I do to procrastinate or just generally how I run around doing one task and getting distracting with the next and not finishing the others!

Frikken Duckie said...

Lmao! I am a huge procrastinator too! Maybe all you need is another project to procrastinate on and push you back to studying - like how you got around to emptying the dishwasher while putting off studying...

I've never been able to study/work at home. I highly recommend hitting up a coffee shop or local library.

Then again, no matter where you are, there is always the internet.
