Why Staying in is Better

It was rainy and gloomy for most of the weekend here in Portland. I have no complaints because it allowed me to sleep in, to nap, to watch the entire Season 3 of Game of Thrones and to do very little housework.

The only mini-complaint I do have is that I made plans and had to leave the house/put pants on. This wasn't too bad after-all considering that I got to witness the Portland Trail Blazers beat the mean 'ole Memphis Grizzlies for the first time this year AND was in bed before 9pm (win!).

For me the weekend has become 2.5 days and nights of pure me time. Time where I'm not on the clock, I'm not attached to my cell phone or my work email. I don't have to do my hair or 'put my face on'. The friends I talk to on the weekends don't care how put-together I come across. It's my absolute favorite, you guys are amazing.

When I woke up on both Saturday and Sunday morning to texts from 11pm the night before, all I could do was laugh. Don't my friends know about my early bedtime on Fridays because the work week leaves me exhausted? Or that binge-watching an entire season of Game of Thrones would mean no extra time to go out or even meet my mom for coffee?

I'm a homebody at heart and my 26 year old less-worried-about-what-people-think self isn't sorry about it for a single minute.

This gif perfectly captures the way I feel.

Now that you think I'm awkward and you'll never want to invite me to a party, here's a fun one sided argument for your entertainment:
+ "How to Cure a Hangover" is not in my google search history
+ More likely to get quality workouts in
+ No "cover charge" to hop in your own bed see what I did there?
+ Less likely to "drunk-eat" all of your weekend calorie budget
+ Weekends in have given birth to my new blog design and nerdy shortcuts at work
+ Beer from my fridge is already paid for, and I don't have to tip.
+ No heel-wearing walking injuries
+ What's a taxi?
+ No trying to remember if the new contact in your phone named "John - Weird Laugh" was cute or not
+ And the best of all, I believe that we mentioned above... "no pants".

What do you love about staying in? Or would you drag me off my couch and make me come play?

I agree with all the points! It's been raining all weekend in Vancouver too and while staying in, all I could think of is the amount of money still in my bank account rather than slowly draining itself on taxi rides for my girlfriends and I (yes, I usually tend to pay for the taxi and then wait a brutal 6 months - 1 year for them to reimburse me - but, safety first, eh?)

Totally agree!! I was in bed at 8 Friday and 930 Saturday and up early both days with no hangover!! So much better than wasting weekends not feeling well! Happy Monday!

When is your birthday? Mine is July 5th and that makes me a Cancer...as is Mark....so yeah basically getting us out of the house when we are already home....not going to happen. Especially when my wine fridge is reachable from my couch. Yeah pretty much never going to happen. I love that you mentioned no drunk eating bahahahaha I swear that was what derailed me every single weekend before. Pita Pit and chips and queso at 2 in the morning is not so stellar for the ole waistline. I'd hang with you on the couch anytime! xoxoxo

I had the laziest of all lazy weekends so I'm right there with you! Add to the list "automatic pantry clean-out" because when you don't want to put on real clothes, you have to make all that food that's left in the pantry and fridge, which leads to less waste, which is a good thing, right?

From the way I act you'd think i was 77 instead of 27!! I seriously love staying in on the weekend - nights really, especially when the weather is bad! I love not having to wear real clothes (yoga pants all the way) and the extent of my makeup is a little CC cream!! Workouts in the morning are great too - you feel like you get a bigger bank for your weekend buck if you're up early!! Ok I sound like an old lady!! Happy Monday friend!

I'm so with you lady! It is just, ugh, not fun having a hangover. I like staying in and just chilling out and getting lots of sleep on the weekends. :)!

"John - Weird Laugh" BAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Staying home is almost ALWAYS better. I usually hate going out... the older I get, the worse it gets. I don't know what my deal is!

i LOVE staying in. Don't have many free weekends these days, but when I do, I try to pamper myself, catch up on sleep, etc.

I think it is torture to go out on Friday nights. I'm with you!! I don't even like having to answer the door for takeout but I do compromise on that here and there :)

i agree to all of this. i'm a total homebody which is weird considering 10 years ago, you would never catch me dead at home.

it's like: what? drinks at 6pm? how about 5pm. no? ok, then have fun byyyyeeee!

I agree with all of these! My college self would not recognize my 25 year old self.. I'm all about staying in these days! I just have no desire to spend my Saturday/Sunday hungover and tired. No thank you!

I used to party. Now the only partying I do involves sweatpants, my couch, and Netflix. Party animal!!

you forgot that staying in also means there's nobody around to judge you for eating pizza in bed and not showering for two days straight.

Haha! That meme is perfect! I'm pretty much the same way. I stay in way more often than I go out. And binge watching Game of Thrones? Yes, please!

I love staying in...but I also love the adventures of going out...I'm torn between the two every weekend. usually the yoga pants/wine bottle/couch potato wins though :-)

I usually like going out, but not like out all night getting drunk. More like dinners, movies, or day dates. Unless the weather is crappy. Then I don't want to go anywhere!

i would stay in every time it rains in oregon, which from what i have heard means i wouldn't get out of the house very much but hey i could always go for a mug of hot chocolate while it pours. there are lots of benefits to staying in certainly saving money is one of them!

I would either come over to your place with my hair up in a messy bun with no makeup on and yoga pants, or make you come to my house like that and we would watch Game of Thrones together!! I LOVE THAT SHOW! I'm pretty sure we would be besties, just saying ;D
